What 3 Things Are You Looking Forward To?

Years ago a friend showed me an article about the benefits of having something to look forward to. It said you should have at least 3 things planned that you are excited about. For a few years after reading that article I was pretty good about keeping a list of trips or events I was anticipating. Now seems like a good time to get back into the practice of planning something to look forward to. Life is hard and the world is scary sometimes but that doesn’t mean there is no room for fun, happiness, laughter, joy, and gratitude. Here are three things I’m currently looking forward to.

1. My first blogger conference! Knowing I’m a new blogger I decided to look into attending a conference as a way to develop my skills and connect with other bloggers. As I’ve mentioned in posts several times, I’m an introvert who works from home and well, I don’t get out much. The idea of flying somewhere (oh yeah, I haven’t even talked about my anxiety around flying yet!) to attend a conference alone was a little intimidating for me. Fortunately, I found the Bloggy Conference! Bloggy Con is located in Sandusky, OH, just a few hours drive for me and the agenda looks great for a new blogger. Bonus points for its lakeside location! (Are you going to Bloggy Con too? Look me up!)

2. Two words: Together Live. I treated myself to a ticket to hear Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, and Luvvie Ajayi speak at their Together Live event in Philadelphia, PA. I never do anything like this for myself. I usually look at events I really want to attend and put together a long list of excuses for why I shouldn’t go. Then I procrastinate until the event sells out and wait for the wave of disappointment to wash over me. Not this time! I’m going and it’s going to be amazing.

3. Our one year wedding anniversary! Adam and I didn’t honeymoon after our wedding. Instead, we stayed home to vote since PA doesn’t have early voting and it was not an option to miss participating in November’s election. We planned a short trip to celebrate our first anniversary this November. We are keeping it local, but luxurious, and heading to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort for a few days. If you have been to Nemacolin I’d love some to hear some of your favorite things to do there! We haven’t planned our full agenda yet but a visit to Falling Water is already on the list.

The items on my list right now are all trips of some sort, which is very different than how I normally spend my time. My next list will probably have smaller things like Brene Brown‘s new book release! I certainly can’t afford to travel and attend events every month but this year has been hard and I decided I need to shake up my life a little bit. So, I’m taking part in the things I usually only read about after they are over.

What do you think about the idea of having something to look forward to? What three things are you looking forward to? I would love to hear from you in the comments!

Labor Day camping sounds fun! I used to camp a few times a year but I haven’t been in years. Thanks for reminding me a holiday weekend is just a few weeks away!

I don’t feel like I have even 1 thing to look forward to right now. It has been a rough lately. We did just get back from Lake Chelan a few weeks ago, and that was fun, and I did look forward to it… so I suppose the list isn’t entirely empty. Just need to fill it back up.

Oh no! Sorry it’s been rough Deann! Something to look forward to doesn’t have to be big. Definitely fill your list back up, even if it’s with something small!

I never really thought about it before, but this is such a great way to keep your chin up. I’m going to have to go make my list right now!

I have found it to be helpful for sure! Even if my list is full of little things it’s still nice to have something I’m working towards or working for.
